January is the month when we start to consider what the year ahead has in store. And if you’re here, you’re probably the kind of person who plans to do some traveling! Are we wrong? Well, we have the perfect suggestion for you to get some inspiration for your travels: the Travel and Adventure Show!
We are happy to report that this year’s Boston Travel & Adventure Show was another success! Kat attended several guest speaker talks, explored travel companies from all over the US, and the world. Not to mention, she met some really great, like minded individuals and took in some wonderful entertainment from around the globe.
This year’s Travel and Adventure Show in Boston took place on January 11th & 12th, 2020 at the Hynes Convention Center. Each day had over a dozen informational seminars, international performances and several cooking demonstrations (with samples!). Travel celebrities including Samantha Brown (of Places to Love), and Pauline Frommer (of Frommer’s Travel Guides) shared their travel tips for 2020. While Chef Chris Valdes (Top Chef Season 14 finalist) shared one of his favourite recipes. The show provided:
- access to thousands of trip planning experts under one roof
- the opportunity to take in dozens of educational travel seminars
- a chance to win door prizes & giveaways
- free show swag
- cultural performances from around the world
- exclusive, ‘show-only’ travel deals
- and (new this year) flavours from around the world in the Culinary Theater!
Pro-Travel Tips for 2020
There was ALOT of information flying around at the Boston Travel and Adventure Show, so we wanted to share a quick summary of our biggest takeaways from our favourite presentations.
Samantha Brown’s ‘Top 5 Places to Travel for 2020’:
1) Budapest, Hungary (pronounced BudapeSHt)
2) New Zealand (North end of South Island)
3) Montreal, QC
4) Phoenix, AZ
5) All of Maine
Beth Santos’ ‘Seven Secrets to Maximize Your Solo Travels’:
1) You don’t have to be alone;
2) Plan for “Day 0” to get your bearings (we couldn’t agree more!);
3) Where you sleep is as important as where you travel when it comes to safety;
4) Pack light;
5) Document EVERYTHING;
6) It’s not about how far you go, but what you learn;
7) Misadventure = Adventure!
But wait, There’s More…
Pauline Frommer’s ‘Travel Here, Not There’ for 2020:
Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna & Puglia > Cinque Terre & Amalfi Coast
Girona, Figueres & Roses > Barcelona
Belize & Panama > Costa Rica
Faroe Islands > Iceland
Similan Islands > Maya Bay
Komodo > Bali
Ausungate Trek > Machu Picchu
Rovijn > Dubrovnik
This year’s featured local travel ‘influencers’ were Brenda Nguyen of ‘Wandering Boston Eater’ and yours truly, Kat! As a result, Kat had the opportunity to interview Pauline Frommer of Frommer’ s Travel Guides. Click over to this page for the full interview with Pauline.
